For most of my adult life I have been involved in visual art education, for the last twenty odd years as Principal Lecturer in Visual Arts with TAFE in South Australia. My studies have encompassed Graphic Design, English Literature and Visual Art History and Theory. While teaching mainly art history in higher education, I have maintained my own artistic practice, for the most part by illustrating books and book jackets, and in 2009 I completed a doctoral thesis which is largely concerned with a collection of illustrated private press books held in Adelaide.
I have always loved books and I always wanted to be an illustrator. In fact, my ideal would be full time illustration and decoration of books. But only the texts that I choose to illustrate, of course! My recent work preparing for the Vita Nuova exhibition has allowed me to do just that and marks the beginning of a new direction in my practice.
